What is Healing Touch?

Healing Touch, also known as Healing Hands, is a form of energy therapy that involves using the hands to gently touch or hover near the body. This modality is ancient and was taught by the Greek father of modern medicine, Hippocrates at his Asclepieion school on the island of KOS from 460-370 BC, Greece.  A notable modern day practitioner that developed her own process is Janet Mentgen, a nurse and holistic healer, Healing Touch integrates principles from various healing traditions and scientific research on energy fields. The practice is based on the concept that the human body has an energy field that can become disrupted or imbalanced due to stress, trauma, or illness. Healing Touch aims to restore harmony to this energy field, which in turn supports the body’s natural healing processes.

How Does Healing Touch Work?

During a Healing Touch session, the practitioner assesses the client’s energy field, which surrounds and interpenetrates the physical body. This is often done by gently moving their hands over or near the client’s body to sense areas of pain, imbalance or blockages. The practitioner then uses various techniques to help balance and restore the energy field. The practitioner directs their own energy through their hands and begins to move the clients energy realigning it and may choose to use one of the following methods. These may include:

Gentle Touch: Lightly placing hands on or near the body to help release energy blockages and promote a sense of relaxation.
Energy Clearing: Techniques to clear stagnant or negative energy from the body’s energy field.
Chakra Balancing: Working on specific energy centers (chakras) to harmonize and align them.
Guided Relaxation: The session often includes elements of guided relaxation to help the client enter a state of deep calm and receptivity, enhancing the effectiveness of the energy work.

At the end of the session, clients are encouraged to reflect on their experience and integrate any insights or sensations they may have felt during the session.
